ALTON, Ill. (KMOX) — As the weather worsens, bald eagles have begun their annual migration into the Alton area.
Mindy Cory with the Army Corps. of Engineers says the colder it gets in other area the more birds will start heading down the Mississippi River to Alton.
The Army Corps. is getting ready for bird watchers, they will run two eagle-watching facilities in the region until February.
“Its more of a natural area where you can do more outdoor bird watching,” said Cory.
Both facilities attract a wide range of eagle watchers. Cory says she seen anywhere from families to individuals, and several scout and church groups. “Really all ages seem to enjoy the shows a lot.”
More information about bird watching can be found at the Riverlands Migratory Bird Sanctuary and the National Great Rivers Museum on the Illinois side.
