Mo. holds contest to encourage sober driving

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — Missouri transportation safety officials are holding a contest to encourage people not to drive while drunk.

The Department of Transportation is giving away four $20 gas cards to people who complete an online quiz about drunken driving.

The contest runs from Jan. 3 through Jan. 7.

Contest entrants must be at least 18 years old, and the winners will be randomly selected. The contest will be posted to the state agency’s website at

State officials say that in 2009 vehicle accidents involving an impaired driver killed 281 people and injured 1,141.
