ST. LOUIS (KMOX) — A burglary suspect is out of the hospital and facing charges after being shot by police Sunday

St. Louis police say a 39-year-old man tried to break into the Denny’s restaurant on south Hampton, after staff told him the restaurant was closed.

Officers say the suspect, Trip Powers was banging a window and broke some of the glass. When police tried to arrest him, the man allegedly made verbal threats with his hands in his coat.

That’s when an officer shot him in the thigh.

The officer is a seven-year veteran placed on administrative leave pending an internal investigation. No one else was hurt.

Powers is charged with 1st degree property damage and attempted assault on a law enforcement officer.

His bond is set at $100,000.
