Former School Secretary Pleads Not Guilty in Theft

LOUISIANA, Mo. (AP) — A former secretary for a northeast Missouri school district will go on trial May 19 on charges that she stole money from her school to finance personal spending sprees.

Forty-two-year-old Kathy J. Walker pleaded not guilty Monday to nine counts of felony stealing.

Walker is accused of stealing more than $10,000 to buy such things as a wedding ring set and items for a bachelorette party. She was a secretary in the superintendent’s office.

The district requested an investigation in June after an administrator reported “a serious financial irregularity.”

Walker was a city clerk in Louisiana for several years. A pre-trial hearing was set for April 11.
