CHESTERFIELD, MO. (KMOX)–A hotline tip on Monday leads Chesterfield Police to arrest a 28 year old Parkway West Wrestling coach.
Chesterfield Police Lt. Steve Lewis says their investigation began after the Parkway School district contacted them to say they’d recieved a tip via their 24 hour safety hotline that an athletic coach may have been involved in inappropriate sexual activity with one of their students.
Lt. Lewis says interviews with the female student uncovered all the details. He says the coach, Jason Lewis may have had sexual contact with the student beginning a year ago and that the contact lasted one to two months.
The O’fallon, Missouri man has been charged with 11 counts including Statutory Rape, Statutory Sodomy and Sexual Contact with a Student While on Public School Property. He is being held on 100-thousand dollars bond in the St. Louis County jail.
Lt. Lewis says they will continue their investigation although there is no indication other students may have been involved.
District spokesman Paul Tandy tells KMOX news, a letter is going home to parents from Parkway West Principal Dr. Jeremy Mitchell, beginning with, “I need to let you know about some deeply regrettable news…”
The district said in a written statement that the coach was suspended without pay pending the outcome of an investigation and that before Lewis was hired in 2008, a federal police background check was completed that revealed no previous instances of misconduct.
