COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) — The University of Missouri has shut down its Columbia campus early in advance of the expected major winter storm.

Chancellor Brady Deaton said the school would be closing at 4 p.m. Monday and remain shut down through Tuesday night. An announcement on a possible Wednesday shutdown will be made by 4 p.m. Tuesday.

The closing meant no classes being Monday night or Tuesday, but campus dining halls, the student rec center and the student union were remaining open along with the university’s several local hospitals.

Only employees whose jobs are considered “situationally critical” were expected to report for work.
