ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – Governor Jay Nixon has activated the Missouri National Guard. Task forces are now stationed in Saint Louis, Kansas City and Fort Leonard Wood, each with two-hundred personnel.

Their job is to keep area roads clear for emergency responders. They also have the capability of removing large trees and debris should roads become impassable.

The National Guard will also be going door to door to check on the welfare of people in case power is lost. Additionally, they can provide assistance to stranded motorists and get them to warming shelters.
