CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) — Schools across central Illinois, from Champaign and Decatur to Peoria and all points in between, closed Tuesday in anticipation of a major winter storm.
That included many colleges and universities. Eastern Illinois University in Charleston sent out word late Monday that Tuesday classes would be cancelled.
Students at the University of Illinois’ flagship campus in Urbana-Champaign aren’t as lucky. As of early Tuesday, classes and other campus events are going on as scheduled.
The university has only called off classes for weather twice as far as campus officials can recall — in 1979 and in 2007.
