Injured Mo. Lawmaker Wearing Neck, Back Braces

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — An aide to a Missouri lawmaker who was hurt in traffic accident says there doesn’t appear to be permanent damage.

But the staffer for House Republican Wanda Brown said in an e-mail Tuesday the freshman legislator might need surgery on her neck. She’s wearing braces on her neck and back.

Brown was injured Monday when she lost control of her vehicle and it overturned on a rural highway in central Missouri’s Benton County. The Highway Patrol says icy conditions contributed to the accident.

House Speaker Steve Tilley says he was told by Brown’s family that she suffered broken bones in her neck and back but is able to walk.

Another lawmaker read the e-mail from Brown’s aide on the House floor Tuesday. Brown represents Benton County and parts of Morgan and Pettis counties.
