Storm Slowly Easing Into Illinois, Roads Slick

EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (AP) — The edge of a monster storm expected to pummel the nation’s midsection is making its presence felt in portions of Illinois.

Illinois State Police say roads in the state’s southwestern section were slick during Tuesday’s morning commute as rain turned to sleet, then back to rain again as part of the storm forecast to dump more than a foot of snow in some areas.

State police say a tractor-trailer overturned Tuesday morning on eastbound Interstate 70 near Pierron, and another semi unit jackknifed on an I-70 exit ramp near Pocahontas. There were no immediate reports of injuries.

Schools throughout the region were closed, and court dockets in many of the area’s counties were cancelled.
