Akin: “Categorically No” to Cutting Defense Spending
ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – Congressman Todd Akin is drawing a line in the sand, on the matter of federal budget deficits.
“Do you believe that everything, including defense, should be on the table for cuts?” KMOX talk show host Mark Reardon asked. “Well, I believe that cutting defense would not be a wise thing to do,” has Akin’s response.
In fact, he said “categorically no” to the prospect of any defense spending cuts.
Instead, he said he’d take a “meat cleaver” to areas like the Departments of Education and Energy.
“Those may be nice, but the nice things are gonna have to go. So what I’m saying is I would cut things, including cutting entire departments out of the federal government.”
Akin explained that America has same number of ships as it did in 1917, which doesn’t meet “the Chinese threat.”
He’s a new member of the House Budget Committee.
