ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – An Illinois State Representative has co-sponsored legislation to bring concealed carry to the Land of Lincoln.
Rep. Dan Beiser represents Illinois’ 111th district. He is co-sponsoring House Bill 148, the Family and Personal Protection Act.
“As a legislator I am always advocating for the protection of the Second Amendment and preserving the right of lawful citizens to own firearms,” Beiser said in a press release. “For too long we have been preventing law-abiding citizens from being better able to protect themselves and their families by denying them the opportunity to have permits to carry concealed weapons.”
The legislation would make Illinois a “shall issue” state, meaning law enforcement officials would be forced to issue permits to any and all qualified applicants as opposed to “may issue” states in which police have discretion in the matter.
“It is important that we work hard to keep weapons out of the hands of dangerous individuals without infringing on the rights of responsible citizens,” Beiser said. “This legislation provides strict guidelines that will allow us to maintain safe communities while also respecting the Second Amendment.”
