UPDATED: Names of Young Fire Victims Released

ROXANA, Ill. (AP) –  Authorities have identified two children who died of smoke inhalation after a weekend house fire in southwestern Illinois’ Madison County.

The chief investigator for the county’s coroner’s office says 6-year-old Jason Gresham and 5-year-old Sky Gresham died at a hospital after the blaze late Saturday in Roxana despite several attempts by firefighters to reach them.

Authorities say the children’s mother and her boyfriend were in the two-story house with three apartments at the time of the fire but couldn’t get the victims out.

The mother’s 6-month-old baby was rescued and treated at a hospital and released.

The fire is not considered suspicious.

Funeral arrangements for the children are pending.
