Owners seek to Close Kenneth Hall Hospital in East St. Louis

EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (AP) –  Owners of the only hospital in East St. Louis want to shut down the deficit-running site, perhaps as early as this summer in a move that could affect 100 workers.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the Southern Illinois Healthcare Foundation’s request involving Kenneth Hall Regional Hall Hospital comes as it deals with $5.5 million in yearly losses.

Kenneth Hall now has only an emergency room and 39 mental-health beds open.

The Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board is to consider the foundation’s application to close the hospital at its May meeting.
