EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (KMOX) - The seat could be getting even hotter for the workers’ compensation system in Illinois.
In the wake of reports of millions in work comp claims at a Southern Illinois prison and “secret” hearings in the case of a state trooper, lawmakers have sponsored legislation asking the Auditor General to look at the books.
“This is taxpayer dollars and if we are paying claims that have no merit, we need to find that out because this state, the state of Illinois, has a lot of financial problems.” Representative Dwight Kay says he’s not concerned that there’s already an investigation underway by the state Department of Insurance. Kay tells KMOX he thinks this deserves a broader examination and a second set of eyes.
