CREVE COEUR, Mo. (KMOX) – Mary Daniels Colletta was stabbed to death outside St. John’s Mercy Medical Center last August allegedly by her estranged husband.
Now a memorial scholarship will be established at Jefferson College, with an unusual but effective start-up method
College spokesman Roger Barrentine says they’re offering special Self-Defense courses for women, with the sign-up fees going to establish the scholarship in the name of Mary Daniels Colletta.
“It’s key to be able to use these skills to their advantage,” Barrentine said. “We hope that we never have to have another incident like this one.”
One-hundred women have already filled the roster for the class, in which they will learn how to use common choke holds, grabs, and other methods to defend themselves against an armed attacker.
