ST. LOUIS, MO. (KMOX) — The Speaker of the Missouri House expresses sympathy for those wanting control of the St. Louis Police Department to be turned back over to the city.
“Listen, I’m a firm believer that local people make better decision than people who aren’t local or people who are bureaucrats,” said Steven Tilley who was a guest on Total Information AM Thursday.
Tilley says he tends to agree with Mayor Francis Slay’s contention that the state-run police board ordering the department what to do, but forcing the city to pay for it amounts to an unfunded mandate.
As for the $100 million Mayor Slay want to charge Missouri if local control isn’t granted?
Tilley say he’ll tackle that issues when, and if it happens.
