Smoking Ban Might Expand to Prisons

JEFFERSON CITY, MO. (KMOX) – One Missouri legislator wants to ban all tobacco products at state correctional facilities.  Representative Chris Molendorp says its a cost issue.

“We are seeing a spike in inmate health care.  There is a direct correlation to inmates health and what taxpayers have to pat to care for them.” said Representative Molendorp.

His bill is opposed by the Executive Director of the Missouri Correctional Officers Association, Gary Gross.  Gross fears prison violence and illegal trafficking if tobacco is banned at prisons.
