Two Injured In Illinois Gun Show Shooting

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (AP) – Two men have been injured in what officials say was an accidental shooting at a central Illinois gun show.

McLean County Sheriff Mike Emery says an attendee at the ECA Gun and Knife Show was laying a semi-automatic rifle on a vendor table Saturday when the gun went off. Emery tells the (Bloomington) Pantagraph that the bullet went through a thick wooden post and two people.

One man has a chest wound, and details of the other man’s condition weren’t immediately available. Emery says authorities will investigate why a loaded weapon was at the show.

The show, organized by the Egyptian Collectors Association, was back up and running shortly after the shooting. Organizers say the shooting marked the first incident in the show’s more than 10 years.

“Emery says authorities will investigate why a loaded weapon was at the show.”

Just guessing it has something to do with the fact that there are usually very solid reasons for certain types of people to be “into guns” so heavily… ie: all other hobbies in life are either too complicated for them to comprehend or they’ve been snubbed out for being an idiot.

i am a gun show vendor and attend all eca shows in bellevill and collinsville il. i sell gun holsters and gun belts all gun brought in by the public are checked at the door by security to make sure they are not loaded and a zip tie pu on the trigger to show they were checked. it is unusual that a loaded gun could get by security . i feel safer at the gun shows than i do on the street i know the show organizer and i think he does a great job seeing that everything and everyone is safe.
