KMOX Voice of Caring – March 2011
St. Patrick Center provides opportunities for self-sufficiency and dignity to persons who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. Individuals achieve permanent, positive changes in their lives through affordable housing, sound mental health, employment and financial stability.
St. Patrick Center is Missouri’s largest provider of homeless services. Our 28 housing, employment and mental health programs assist more than 9,000 individuals each year who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. Since 1983, we have helped more than 141,000 homeless and poor men and women build permanent, positive change in their lives. St. Patrick Center is also national model for best practices and has been recognized for its innovation and successful outcomes.
Working side by side with 11 partners, we don’t want to enable homelessness… we want to END it. We’re not a shelter or a soup kitchen – we don’t give a man a fish and feed him for a day. We TEACH a man to fish and feed him for LIFE. So instead of being a hand OUT, we’re a hand UP.
St. Patrick Center is a national model for “Housing First”, which means you put clients into housing first, then wrap the services they need around them — mental health services, drug and alcohol services, employment services. Nationally, and in St. Louis, we are seeing an 85% success rate!
