MADISON COUNTY, Ill. (KMOX) –  An Alton, Illinois man, recently left homeless by a fire, was struck and killed by a car outside his hotel.

The Madison County Coroner says 70-year-old John Hines was walking from the Hi Way House Motor Lodge in Godfrey to a restaurant across the street when he was struck by a car.

Officials say Hines died of blunt head trauma.

The driver of the car is a juvenile.

The incident is still under investigation by Sheriff’s Deputies.
