Ikerman Found Guilty On All Felony Counts in Deadly ’08 Crash

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (AP) –  A Metro East tow-truck driver has been convicted of causing a 2008 hit-and-run wreck that killed a man and that victim’s infant son.

Madison County Associate Judge James Hackett found 45-year-old Mark Ikerman of rural Edwardsville guilty Wednesday of charges of aggravated driving under the influence and leaving an accident scene.

Authorities say 34-year-old Donald Legens of Granite City was putting gas in his sport utility vehicle in November 2008 after the SUV became disabled on a county road in Granite City.

Police say Ikerman hit the SUV from behind, killing Legens and fatally injuring his 9-month-old son.

A sentencing date was not immediately set.
