SPRINGFIELD, MO.(AP)-Unemployment in Illinois fell to 9 percent in January, marking the 12th consecutive month that the rate has dropped. The Illinois Department of Employment Security released the figures Thursday. The lowest level since February 2009.
The employment security department’s director, Maureen O’Donnell, says the falling unemployment rates and rising job numbers show a strengthening Illinois economy. The Illinois jobless figure is about the same as the national average.
