MADISON COUNTY, Ill. (KMOX) - The Madison County coroner’s office says a woman apparently drowned after her vehicle overturned into a lake early Saturday.
49-year-old Catherine Vestal slid out of control on St. James Road and her Jeep Liberty landed upside down in Holiday Shores Lake.
A passerby noticed the vehicle’s wheels sticking up from the water and called police.
Coroner Steve Nonn says an autopsy shows “drowning” as a tentative cause of death.
Routine testing for alcohol and drugs will be performed, but it could take weeks for those results to come back from the state crime lab.
