Grand Overpass Closes, Construction Expected to Take a Year

Bob Hamilton

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOX) — Today’s the day Grand Avenue no longer goes from Chouteau to St. Louis U.

The Grand Avenue overpass is coming down starting today to be replaced by a stronger bridge with better pedestrian and transit access.

The present bridge is rusting away.  The replacement work will take awhile, over a year to complete the $22-million project.

MetroLink trains operate under the overpass and the Grand MetroLink station will be moved just east of the work site.

Metro buses will detour around the site until the new bridge reopens.  But, again, it’s work that will take at least a year and Grand Avenue north of Chouteau will be out of service.
