Triad HS Student Charged With Gun Possession At School

TROY, Ill. (KMOX) –  A student at Triad High School in Madison County has been charged with felony unlawful use of a weapon.

17-year-old Robert W. E. Smith was found to have a loaded .32 caliber handgun in the glovebox of his pickup truck on the school parking lot Thursday after two other students approached a school resource officer to report it.

Investigators say the gun was never taken into the school itself and there were no injuries.

A spokesman with the Madison County Sheriff’s Department tells KMOX News that there appears to have been no intent to use the gun on fellow students or school staff at Triad.

Bond was set at $35,000.
