Alton Man Accused of Starving Dogs to Death

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – Bail is set at 20 thousand dollars for an Alton man accused of starving two dogs to death.

43-year-old James Steele was charged Friday in Madison County with aggravated cruelty to animals.

The Metro East Humane Society says it received a report Steele was abusing his dogs.  Animal Control went to Steele’s home but found no dogs.  They came back the next day and found two dogs inside garbage bags.

Steele claimed the dogs died from exposure and he was going to bury them once the ground softened.
