UPDATED: Man Charged in Fatal Jefferson County Shooting

PEVELY, Mo. (KMOX) –  A Pevely man’s jailed on murder charges following a fatal shooting late Sunday night in Jefferson County.

Earl Francis Ealey faces charges of 2nd degree murder and armed criminal action in the shooting death of a 36-year-old Festus man.

Cash-only bond has been set at $250,000.

The name of the shooting victim has not been released.


One man is dead, another in custody following an argument that escalated into gunfire in Jefferson County.

The victim, believed to be in his mid-30’s, has not been publicly identified.

Jefferson County Sheriff Oliver “Glenn” Boyer says the man went to a home in the 1800 block of State Route Z in Pevely Sunday night.

Sheriff Boyer says the man’s estranged wife asked him to leave the property, which he did.

But the man returned a short time later and got into an argument with his wife and several other people.

Shots rang out, and when deputies arrived the man was lying in the driveway with a gunshot wound to the upper torso.

He was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Investigators later took a 64-year-old man into custody, but no formal charges have been filed.
