(SPRINGFIELD, ILL.)KMOX–Here’s a trivia question for you.  Which Illinois agency has 15 airplanes?  It’s the Illinois Department of Transportation.

IDOT Secretary Gary Hannig was quizzed by members of an Illinois House appropriations committee.  Hannig told committee members he oversees four Beecraft King Air jets, two helicopters and nine Cessna fixed-wing planes.   One state rep told Hannig it looks bad for the state to be in such dire financial straits and yet have a fleet of aircraft.

Critics also questioned the secretary about the number of minorities that work for IDOT.  Hannig said he has been able to bring the minority workforce at IDOT from 8 percent to 9 percent.  He called the lack of minorities an entrenched program that cannot be quickly corrected.
