ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – One last volley, between supporters of the men running for St. Louis County Assessor.
The latest claim is that Democratic Assessor candidate Jake Zimmerman is using many of County Executive Charlie Dooley’s campaign personnel, including a field representative and fundraiser.
It comes from Republican County Councilman Greg Quinn, who says the close relationship makes him uncomfortable.
“The problem with the Dooley campaign becoming, essentially, the Zimmerman campaign is that it keeps independence from being the case,” he says.
74-percent of County residents voted last fall to make the Assessor an elected position, independent of the County Executive.
A spokesman for Zimmerman emailed the following statement to KMOX: “This is a silly attempt, by a desperate campaign, to divert attention away from the fact that their candidate still owes over 12,000 dollars in unpaid property taxes.”
His supporters point out that Wood’s campaign manager is John Campisi, who made headlines about a decade ago for using a public fire hydrant to fill his swimming pool while on the County Council.
