Shots Fired at SLU

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – For more than 20 years, Saint Louis University security officers have been equipped with handguns, but they never had to use them — until now.

University officials say it all started early yesterday morning when a security officer was called out to investigate reports of suspicious activity in the 3700 block of Laclede Avenue.

There he found a blue SUV, with a man inside and another walking between some parked vehciles. He says when he confronted them, the man outside quickly entered the SUV, then suddenly sped toward him.  The officer told investigators he fired on the vehicle because he feared for his life. He managed to hit the vehicle and shattered the rear window. The officer was not injured.

The suspects were last seen driving east on Laclede Avenue. City police and the school are investigating.
