BELLEVILLE, Ill. (AP) __ A Metro East woman jailed on charges she beat a 9-year-old family member with a plastic baseball bat and a belt has been suspended without pay from her job at a nursing home.
The administrator of Grange Nursing Home in Mascoutah tells the Belleville News-Democrat there’s no evidence 31-year-old Gwendolyn Jefferson of Belleville mistreated any of that site’s patients. Lynn Haas adds that Jefferson was well-liked by co-workers and the home’s residents.
Jefferson is charged with aggravated battery of a child under the age of 13. Investigators say the child told them Jefferson hit her the night before workers at the girl’s school reported the child had bruising on her arms, legs and back.
Jefferson’s home telephone number is disconnected. It wasn’t immediately clear whether she has an attorney.
