SENECA, Mo. (AP) - A southern Missouri teenager is talking only to God these days.
Thirteen-year-old Decklan Conway, of Seneca, has given up talking for Lent, and hasn’t said a word since March 9. That includes no talking to his parents, his teachers or his friends.
Decklan uses dry-erase boards and markers to communicate. KOAM-TV reports Decklan’s brother, Kyle, planned to take the vow of silence with him but couldn’t because of a science fair and speech and debate event.
Some of Decklan’s teachers say his effort was a distraction the first day, but it’s not anymore and his grades have improved. Decklan says he gave up talking because he believes in God, not to get attention or cause disruptions.
