ST. LOUIS, MO.(KMOX) –Get ready to pay more to fill up your tank.
Motorists are paying $4.09 per gallon in the metro east and as much as $3.89 in St. Louis.
A recent survey by Mastercard SpendingPulse shows that Americans are driving less as a way to deal with the higher gas prices. The survey reveals that for the fifth straight week, gas sales have fallen.
John Gamel is director of gasoline research for MasterCard. He says consumers are cutting back on driving, consolidating trips, and cutting back on leisure trips as well.
Bill Fleischli, Executive Director of the Illinois Petroleum Marketers Association says the volume of gas being sold at member stores has decreased two to five percent. He says that means motorist are buying less inside the gas stations as well.
