COLLINSVILLE, Ill. (AP) - A southwestern Illinois special-education teacher has been ousted after allegedly ordering students to remove their underwear to determine which child soiled his pants.

The Belleville News-Democrat reports that Collinsville’s school board voted Monday not to renew the contract of the unidentified Webster Elementary School teacher.

The newspaper reports a letter sent to parents this week indicated the teacher saw feces on the classroom floor March 30 and had each of the seven children go separately into a private bathroom stall and remove his or her underpants. The third and fourth graders then were told to put their clothes back on and exit the stall to show their underpants to the teacher.

The letter says the teacher was not ever present in the stall.

Think the teacher might have consulted with parents,
and principle implementing a plan for a delicate situation.
There is special underwear kids wear until they acquire
evacuation control. Whats the big deal? Adults wear them too.

  • mark25

Naturally the story would be from Illinois.

  • M. Crouch

The sick teacher could now easily get a job with the TSA!

  • LivingInSTL

someone tell me this, what would be the correct procedure in handling this? I have a 3 year-old and if he soils his pants, he does not say and word and when asked he denies it. So I can picture the teacher asking who had an accident and all of the students denying it. So what should have the teacher done? what is the correct protocol in a situation like this?

I like the term “ousted”. That gives the liberal media an out to think that something was actually done to that teacher. I’ll bet they were “suspended with pay”. They’ll be paid through the end of the year.

“Good Job” goes out to the unions for protecting this sleaze.

The union will find them another job in another district this fall. Or they’ll be subbing for the same district.

  • Rowdy Boots

OH WHAT A BRIGHT WAY TO SOLVE A PROBLEM.

i am beginning to believe the TEACHER COLLEGES ARE TO BLAME.

Do these people actually earn their degrees?

    MY GOD WE ARE DYING!

  • Sheena

That’s a tough call to make, if you ask me. Do you let a child run around all day with soiled pants and risk getting skin infection, or do you try to solve the problem and take care of it? If the teacher did nothing and the child sent home with dried feces, does the teacher get fired for that?

  • Rowdy Boots

    NO, fool,

You call in the school nurse and ask her advice, duh.

It is not the teachers job to figure out who pooped his pants!

  • Randy Conn

Sorry to be an analytical engineer about this, but shouldn’t the teacher have been able to use the sense of smell to determine who was carrying a full load?

Why would you call the school nurse, fool! No one was sick or injured, you do not need a nurse. However yes, a sense of smell would have solved the issue in this case.

  • Jason

They didn’t even fire the teacher – just not renewing the contract for next year.

  • Tom Gibson

So that call goes something like this: “Hi, your child may have soiled himself, but I have no way of knowing. Would you please leave your job and drive over here to check your child’s pants? Oh, we are calling all the parents to come check their children. No, you can’t give me permission to check your child. The office would have to have a permission letter signed by you on file. Okay. I’ll see you in about half an hour.”

  • Joe B

well, did she find the culprit??? lol poor lady just had enough. the loving patience of a teacher isnt in everybody hehe. Go get a prison guard gig. It’s very similar.

yeah, folks, of course it’s bad, but i have to chuckle at it. i was a teacher for 5 years, and we pretty much all said to each other that if we did what these kids really needed, we’d get fired, one and all heh, cause it’s all “you cant do this, you cant say that, if lil johnny doesnt like to read then give him an ipod to play with. his psychologist said it’s necessary for his sense of well being. theres so much PC BS getting in the way of what teachers need to do, and it creates breaking points like this. I’m not defending what she did in this case, i just feel such “outbursts” will become more and more common as the needs for teachers rises, pay falls, expectations grow all while taking away all the power to have any effective discipline.

  • ron lewis

I may be overthinking this, but wouldn’t you think the children could be separated and a basic smell test used to determine which is the likely offender????

Then, you could call that child’s parent. The child could be put on the phone with the parent, in a room by him/her self to have a private conversation. Administrators could then talk to the parent and with his/her approval, the school nurse could assist the child.

Oh, but wait, that assumes the parents and children have rights and that the liberal pukes running our schools are not Commandants with power over every aspect of children’s lives.

  • mcgee101

I so agree with you. What was the teacher to do. I think she handeled it correctly. She would of probably got fired for not finding out who did soil the pants. Because the parents who found there child all soiled would of been upset. She was damed if she did and damed if she didn’t.

  • ron lewis

been there done that. Never would have done this though.

My mother has Alzheimers – should I be hiring a teacher to care for her?

  • W. M Lasten

It doesn’t say if this ‘teacher’ was male or female.
I was thinking: if the teacher were male, he could call Rome, (Hq. of the european division of ‘N.A.M.B.L.A.’), and be immediately re-employed, w/ the useual world-wide, ‘canned’ hunting & post-hunt ‘travel’ arrangements, L.O.L.!
The Tiber River division, (as N.A.M.B.L.A., under Ratzinger, has also come to be known), seems content to loose females; (175,000 nuns in 1965; about 75,000 at present).
And you thought the Catholic church was just for stuffy old refugees from Nursing Homes, preparing to shuffle off to buffalo!!

  • ron lewis

Stupidity. Are you trying to claim that there are not nurses in almost every school?

I’ve never heard any teaparty member suggest that school nurses should be fired. Instead, they say that teachers unions should not have collective bargaining rights because they contribute huge campaign donations to the politicians who negotiate their compensation agreements.

I’ve also heard them suggest that those outrageous comp plans, with their huge pensions and paid for health insurance, should be cancelled.

Honestly, you are either stupid, naive, or a despicable propagandist spewing lies to advance a partisan political agenda. I expect it’s all three.

  • popi

    ron lewis smells poopers?

  • zef

Well she really stepped in it that time didn’t she.

  • ron lewis

wrong. You seem to subscribe to the theory that if a teacher is too stupid to figure out the common sense solutions (which I detailed next above), it justifies her violation of these children’s rights. Stupidity is not an excuse.

    Typical liberal.

  • Old One

As a recently retired teacher with forty years in the classroom I can unequivocally say that since the middle 1980s the slow treacle of mentally challenged teachers into our school system has turned into a flood. The public is getting the quality of teachers it deserves and this report from Illinois is proof of the pudding.
I am a liefelong consrvative political activist, voter, & sixth generation republican but will tell you the truth. The reason the schools have been flooded with mental, moral & easily indoctrinated low grade products as tachers is money. Salaries have not been high enough to attract quality people into teaching since the late 1960s.
A case in point is my own son. He graduated from a top flight engineering school in 2006 and within 2 years was earning more than I or any of my senior high school math & science teache colleagues after 40 years of experience and more than 100 costly semester units of postgraduate courses.
The public is getting exactly the quality of teachers for which it is paying and yes that damned low. You get what you pay for!

    .

  • ron lewis

Popi doesn’t??? Wait, what’s that cologne you’re wearing?

  • Alexa Moon

A … good … teacher would have the wherewithal to talk privately with each child
and find the seat of the problem, followed by a discrete call to the parent or the
school nurse. I am a .. good … teacher, and have done this soooo many times.

  • Dave Axelrod

Feces on the floor?!? It’s Obama’s fault.

  • ronlewisfannie

Go ronnie baby. democrats rule. poopers for everyone. teachers make me constipated. you give me diarrheah, but I’m proud of you nonetheless for being able to spell diarrhea correctly. You had good teachers.

  • Drlecter

The USA is on the edge of bankrupcy thanks to too much poop in the Congress, and ron is getting all worked up over smelling poop in school. “Smell yourself” as Hannibal Lecter once said in “Manhunter.”

  • dsk

It was wrong. The poor kids who didn’t poop their pants being humiliated and asked to take off their underwear??? 3rd and 4th graders? There were only a few kids. The “teacher” should’ve been able to narrow it down. Pretty sick.

  • Realityblowz

No problem. Just keep a box of house flies in the office. If there is a problem, bring them to the room and release them. Just give it a few minutes to see which kid the flies settle on. Problem solved.

  • Bearway

Seems like NOT releasing the “teacher’s” name is sure way that this animal gets to abuse other children. Be sure they are anonymously accused, don’t release the name when they are found to be abusing kids, let them move on to the next school so they can abuse again.

Why did the school not report the teacher to the police for sexual abuse?

Because they want pedophiles and sick people like this teaching our kids and grandkids.

End public schools now, they have become havens for pedophles, bullies and indoctrinators.

  • Fred Gates

    Billy Madison wouldn’t mind.

  • Teach

From one teacher to another, learn how to spell. Use spell check or proof-read.

  • ron lewis

Ah yes, the de facto liberal response to overwhelming logic – attack the messenger.

In almost 15 years of arguing with liberals online, I’ve never had one who didn’t do this.

Funny, though, that you recognized I spell correctly, since your post has about 10 grammar mistakes. Did you Google it to be sure?

  • nygrump

Interesting how you need to turn this into an attach against workers. Why not use this also as an excuse to reduce taxes on the rich. Not sure why you hate the police and fire workers so much.

  • ron lewis

????I’m “worked up”? Emma comes out of nowhere with irrational attacks on tea party members, and you call me worked up for simply correcting her stupidity with calm reasoned facts.

I’m guessing your spouse is a very unhappy person if that’s your idea of “worked up.”

  • Fred Gates

I have heard that Obama was an Editor for the Harvard Law Review. Shouldn’t there be some form of reference to this in a Harvard Law Review circa 1990 which would be available in any large law library connected with a major university? Law Review staffs are always listed with bound volumes in law libraries.

  • Darth Vader

Maybe it was the teachers fault in the first place, I remember being in elementary school and havint to pee and the teacher not letting me, so I did it in my pants, then my mom had to come with fresh clothes

  • Joe

Ron. you make it think as if it would be easy to just take a kid alone to give a sniff test. While it seems simple enough, who will watch the other kids? Now you need two teachers. One to watch the teacher, then one to sniff. Oh wait, once the kids tell the parents they were with a teacher alone and getting sniffed (which will seem like a bad fetish), folks will complain and probably sue. So now we need 3 teachers. One to watch the kids, one to sniff, and one to make sure the sniffer is just sniffing. But then again, someone will complain and sue. So now we need another staffer. One to watch the kids, one to sniff, one to watch the sniffer, and one to call the parents to tell them there is a possible po0per and they will get a sniff test.

  • ron lewis

To which behaviors and thought processes do you refer, my seemingly narrow-minded friend?

Tell me you don’t let strangers order your children out of their underwear.

  • Realityblowz

Rhetorical question if there ever was one.

  • glenbeckstein

Very deep discussion. I am proud to be an American. This is this. To poop or not to poop. The next step is a doozy. When we go bankrupt, the dollar falls in value, prices soar, unemployment roars, and where were you when “Rome” was burning. Don’t ever say you didn’t see it coming.

  • cyclops

That’s the first intelligent comment with insight today. Thank you.

  • RonnieReagan

No good. In that case the headline would read that the teacher was ousted for sniffing their students rear ends., That said, surely there is some solution, because I guarantee this isn’t the first time in history that a kid has soiled him/herself and not fessed up. It’s the school systems fault for not having a procedure in place and training the teacher. SUE THE SCHOOL!

  • FugginMorons

One bad idea after another. can’t you holster your hate long enough to use some critical thinking? I’m sure if the title was “Water is Wet” you would find a way to post some out of context facts and say something as stupid as “get rid of all public employee unions.”

Please explain then why Chinese and Japanese schools get better outcomes while spending less on education. In the US, Utah ranks 25th in per student spending but achieves the 4th highest outcomes. Ditto Wisconsin – low spend, high outcomes.

We have many problems with out schools, but the amount of money spent is not the problem.

If salaries are too low, why are so many college students opting to earn Education degrees?

Not claiming that teachers are overpaid – at least not here in Texas where we have right-to-work laws – but the fact is that most teachers join the profession for altruistic reasons. They want to make a difference, and I admire them for that. I quit a high-paying job to start a non-profit for the same reason.

There’s more important things in the world than money. If you became a teacher to make a lot of money, you’re an idiot and shouldn’t be teaching anyone anything.

And that, my friend, is how a real conservative thinks.

  • Old One

By the way many schools in California have No school nurses. The senior high, (enrollment 3,000) from which I retired had none for years. The position of school nurse was budgeted but was unfilled.
If you haven’t heard there’s an acute shortage on RNs with a college degree and the $45,000 a year starting salary had no takers when nurses with an RN certification in the area earned more than $60,000 a year to start and my 30 year old RN neice made over a $100,000 in 2006

  • DJH

It doesn’t matter if the teacher was present in the stall. I’m not one of those idiot, whiners crying about feelings, etc. but this action could do one thing and one thing only; embarrass a child who apparently HAS SPECIAL NEEDS!

I’ll be the first to argue for better teacher pay – but idiots like this are to prevalent, and the inefficiency and ineptitude at all levels ABOVE TEACHERS is where our money is going missing!

In a free market economy all conservative or liberal will ignore those jobs which pay little. Those conservatives who expect anyone teachers or otherwise to work for altruistic rewards iare buffoons at best.
All people in a free society seek their own economic self-interestt & to tell a smart university graduate to live on altruism because they are a teacher while demanding that they have the capacities that can command a bigger paycheck elsewhere is being more than a little foolish..
Liberals PC & marxist idiocy augumented with conservative folly as per teacher compensation are combining to completely destroy American public schools.
A large Protestant school in our community of 60,000 is currently conducting a concerted fund raising drive so that it can raise teacher salaries to a level that enables them to attract competent staff. It seems local landlords, supermarkets, utility companies, & retailers do not accept altruistic motivations as payment from teacher customers.

This is a “Special Education” so called teacher. These children have special needs. Yes, the school nurse should have been called ASAP! Then each parent should have been notified about the situation. I have a special needs child. I used to get calls like this asking to bring a change of clothes. I then sent extra clothes in his back pack. This teacher made this into a headline when it should have been handled by the school’s staff.

  • Bubba

How do you know that the issue is spelling and not typos or eye problems? The poster is retired.

You remind us that liberals are tolerant ONLY of those who support their communist agenda and intolerant of those who don’t.

why are we as a society dedicated precious resources to “teaching” imbeciles? Teaching them what? How to brush their teeth? How to use a toilet? Great they’ll be 30 years old with 50 years left to go with their only skills basic bathroom.

These people will contribute nothing to society and cost mightily. They should be put down!

  • pafrog

Teachers should not have to deal with this at all. School nurse or social worker could do it on a limited basis but special needs children should not be denied their basic rights by being forced into a situation where untrained personnel are responsible for their needs. There are people trained to deal with children that have issues with incontinence and body control. Physical therapy to help them gain muscle control and phyciatrists to help them with mental control. None of these is available in a public school classroom and we should be ashamed to try and mainstream some of the children who couls be better served in a more controlled and safe enviroment. Of course this would take a lot more money and a special facility. That means less money for the school district and fewer heads to count when it comes to give out the budget goodies. I work in a public school district and the more I see the more I realize its all about MONEY not the students, not the teachers, not the results, its about how much can we get while spending as little as possible. I blame the UNIONS, the STATE, and the ADMINISTRATORS.

  • Eric

Ron, as a teacher, I have to tell you…

I completely agree with you on ALL your points. I am a life-long conservative and retired military.

I teach high school (thank God – I never want to have to deal with this). I would have immediately removed all the children from the classroom because the feces is a biological hazard and needs to be cleaned up immediately. A janitor would have been called. (Obviously, at this point, your plans for the day are done. But then again, some general somewhere at sometime once said that all plans are perfect until first contact!). So anyway, I would have contacted an administrator and a school counselor. At that point…well…to be honest, I really a kid who does that is eventually going to give themselves up somehow, through outright admittance or body language. Or in this case – smell. I certainly wouldn’t have smelled their butts or made them take off their underwear. Additionally, and of paramount importance, I would NEVER have put any student in a position where they might be embarrassed in front of their peers. To take each student into an administrator’s or counselor’s office and ask them if they did it is not out of the question.

A child that does something like that could have physical and/or psychological issues that need to be addressed. Ultimately, the mental and physical health of each child is more important than what I could teach them during that time.

Doing what I have outlined probably wouldn’t take more than an hour.

  • Eric

“I really (think) a kid who does that is eventually going to give themselves up somehow…”

And I would have called a school nurse as well.

  • hemingwayfan

    “been there done that.”
You were a teacher? Were you also fired for pooper charges? Is this you? Is this about you? Are you the teacher in question? Is this why you are home and not at work this glorious morning for the employed?
Mr. Ron, I have to poop, Sir.
No! You get no pudding. Make your own.
    But, Mr. Ron, please!

Haha Bubba I sure hope that comment was for irony. Otherwise I think Nate’s point was proven.

  • Teapartyguy

What do you know about common sense? Aren’t you Ron Lewis, the famous teacher-hater? Is that common sense to paint all teachers with a wide brush. Tea partiers are NOT haters. Pooper news is big news. Must’ve made your day.
Common sense would tell you to get a job rather than stay home and hate people you don’t even know. Tea party people are workers, not victims.

  • T.Wilson

If the child had dropped his drawers and then taken the dump, checking underwear wouldn’t tell you anything. If they pooped their pants and it fell on the floor, there should be some on the kid’s legs. Where was the teacher when the dump happened? Send them all to the nurse to check. To the liberal mind ‘it takes a village’ and everyone’s kid belongs to them.

  • SmartOne

This teacher acted in a stupid, ridiculous manner. A simple finger check would id the culprit.

  • Catherine A. McClarey

I’ve had a child in special ed classrooms throughout his school career, and I would not have had a problem with what this teacher did. Apparently, all of the students involved were high-functioning enough that none of them required adult supervision or assistance in the restroom, and noone saw any of the students unclothed, so no impropriety was involved — and the teacher probably had to write a behavior incident report about the feces on the classroom floor. I assume the feces was cleaned up promptly, but the teacher needed to determine which child had had a toileting accident — at least so the child’s parents could be informed. Doubtless it would have been embarrassing for the students to have been individually questioned in their classmates’ presence about the origin of the feces (and a breach of propriety to question them 1-on-1 without another adult also being present) — and the students’ possible communication challenges may have made it impossible for them to have given verbal answers in any case — so the underpants inspection of the entire class may have seemed the most practical way to investigate the problem.

  • Normarae

    ron lewis
I may be overthinking this, but wouldn’t you think the children could be separated and a basic smell test used to determine which is the likely offender????
That’s great. Get a job as a pooper smeller/detector. Or just get a job. Or if you have a job, get a life. You sound like a union thug. Norma Rae

  • Mike

Whoever smelt it dealt it. Maybe it was the teacher who soiled pants?

Seriously, wastes in the classroom is a health hazard and if she is absolutely sure someone has fouled themselves and he/she can’t see who it is, he/she should have ended the class and sent them all to the school nurse to deduce who it is. Following them into the bathroom shows poor judgment.

  • Jim Brooks

    Dear Tom Gibson,

I just want you to know that you are not the only rational person left. You are correct, and I recognize your correctness.

    Sincerely,

  • kay

The correct thing to do is when the turd was found on the floor, Don’t bring it to the attention of the whole class. Clean it up and in time the child who has the problem would ask to go to the restroom. Then quietly let them go like any child would do. Once you ask the whole class any kid would not admit the accident to the whole class due to embarrassment.

  • nathan J

Now the former teacher can get a job with TSA.

  • mda

I thought she was rather professional… It’s not like she was a TSA agent feeling up some little child! Oh, that’s okay!!! But to ask children to (discretely) change to identify the problem is not???

  • Jack

  • GlenFromCanada

That teacher would never have ordered adults to do that. And this was such a missed learning opp for the kids: Do we have plastic bags, or tupperware? Paper towels? Vinegar, bleach, salt or baking soda from the faculty lounge or nurse’s office? Sand or sawdust from Mr. Jenkins’ maintenance room? And then some brief info about medical problems which might cause someone to suffer this, and how “…we shouldn’t jump to assume it’s a mean prank…someone may desperately need help”. And how long will it take for each of our olfactory sense to block the odor. And then you pledge the nurse’s help, “if anyone ever DOES have such a problem.

It’s stuff like this (which takes less time than some long and twisted Undie-Fetish Show ["Okay, Elizabeth, you're on - and Tommy, YOU'RE next"]) that gets you a rewarding FT/Perm career featuring a standing ovation at the end of the year.

Remember: “To Sir (or Ma’am), with love… What can I give you in return?”

  • DJ

The article says there were only SEVEN 3rd and 4th graders in the class. How could a child in such a small class pull their pants down and poop in the floor without the teacher seeing ? Where was the teacher? What was she doing? Why weren’t these SEVEN SPECIAL ED children being properly supervised? I taught a nursery school class of 10 three year olds; if one of them messed in the floor, I would have seen it happen.

Why are you even talking about this? The teacher did the right thing. What the hell happened to America? Why are we such panzees and people pleasers. The quickest and most efficient method for identifying the perp would be to ask each child to sniff the child in front of them. The one in the front of each row would, of course, sniff the child in the back.

This would actually make a good class project. Math and logic could be used in the process. The science of olfactories as well. They would probably have to skip human anatomy as that is normally not taught until high school.

HuH? Didn’t say I was a teacher, I acknowledged having spent a day in special ed class. I volunteered many days at my kid’s schools. Why would you make that conclusion? Of course, your next several questions based on that stupid one are irrelvant. But then you ask:

“Is this why you are home and not at work this glorious morning”?

Why do you say that? What makes you think I”m not working? Do you always just spew stupidity and delusions? Make sense.

Why do I get the idea I’m talking to a 5th grader?

You mean they see the children’s genitals!?!?! YES. get over it. they are not pedophiles. They are just doing a very difficult job and getting paid very little. If you are the parent of one of these unfortunate children, your other choice is to homeschool and do it yourself.

  • ron lewis

I would reduce taxes on everyone, NYGrump, which unfortunately for your irrational hatred of people who worked hard and succeeded would mean “rich” people since they are the ones paying most of the taxes.

You do understand that if you took all the income from every person making more than $350k for the next 8 years it wouldn’t pay off the debt. But, it would discourage anyone else from ever trying to succeed – which is what liberals really want.

Anyone who thinks taxing the rich will reduce our debt can’t do simple math.

Please Fuggin Moron, be the first liberal to make an overwhelming argument supporting the need for public employee unions. In all of the recent controversy over public union collective bargaining, I’ve never read a single response from a union supporter addressing the opposing issues.

All of the union supporters do just what you do – insult and attack.

Please, do enlighten us. Why should public unions be able to negotiate huge compensation plans with the same politicians to whom that donate huge campaign contributions.

I won’t hold my breath waiting for your intelligent reply.

Haven’t you ever played “Show Me Your Drawers” or “Who Has The Longest Skidmark”? It’s interesting that the kids were told to “put their clothes back on and exit the stall to show their underpants to the teacher”. Did he/she/it keep the drawers? Are we talking about an underwear fetish here? This sounds like a case of a school board discouraging diversity!

    This brings back memories!!!!

In 1945, while I was in 1st grade, there arose a stink in the classroom. No one would admit to the “dirty” deed. The teacher summoned the school nurse and the two of them took each child out into the hallway and checked their pants. Naturally, the LAST, and of course GUILTY kid held out until the end!

In this case, the teacher should have summoned another teacher, principal, whatever, and then taken the kids into the hallway one at a time. Just having the student alone, away from the others, would ID the kid with the dirty pants. It would not be necessary to take them off, or even to pull them down.

This teacher should not be in a school!!!!!

  • david

two people in an elevator…one farts…everybody knows who did it!

  • ILside

Hey its not the school nurse’s job either. Just because they are a nurse doesnt give them full right to just strip search children at school. They have no more right to check the underwear than any other personnel. Nobody has that right.

And this was not just a special ed situation, this is a behavior disorders situation. It wasnt a health issue, its a behavior issue.

  • NotFondOfLibs

  • AZ_Teacher

Again, Rowdy Boots (what does that mean anyway??) you are woefully innacurate. Do you really think that anything that happens in your classroom is not your ‘job’. I’ll bet you’re one of those parents who complains at least twice a day and is absolutely sure that they’re better at everything in the classroom that a successful teacher is. Sorry your kid got disciplined and you probably had it explained to you that it was because of something you needed to improve on–but, deal with it please.

  • lookinlikeafoolwithurpooponthefloor

Poop in the floor, that should fall to a $20/hr dues-paying, democrat- voting, union member with a stellar medical plan that covers the psychological damage of having to scoop poop. The teacher in question should be re-assigned to pat down protesting children at the airport. The parents ought to consider a lawsuit for the trauma those kids were forced to endure. I’m thinking a mega-bucks payout that would be properly taxed to keep those folks in line. They might take the money and decide to open and business and hire employees or something. Sorry, I forgot. There won’t be enough money left over to pay for the mandated Obamacare so they’ll do better working in a union job and “sticking it to the man.”

The Teacher was perfectly right in asking Mentally Challenged kids to remove their underwear to determine which one soiled themselves. PS: Try working with these type of children….not easy!!

  • Craig

    Ditto, Scott – lmao!

  • Nick

DID I SAY STRIP SEARCH ?

  • John Clark

Everyone seems to miss the central point. A young student couldn’t hold it in, and rather than poop in their underwear, went on the floor. If this wasn’t hooliganism (which I don’t believe it was), it must have been a huge embarrassment to the perpetrator. Imagine the derision and humiliation that would occur were the guilty party revealed to one and all.

To my mind, each of the students should have been sympathetically interviewed by the teacher, or nurse if there is one, or even the principal. Probably the behavior at the interview would reveal the guilty party, and their identity would be kept confidential. This may have been a traumatic experience for the student. And the teacher would then have a private conversation with the parent.

  • sean

  • Bill

The teacher did what any of us would do. If the smell was so bad, She probably should have called the principle in and consulted with him to see what they should do. But, this is not worth putting on the news and sacking the teacher over it. Duh!

  • ILside

You are the one that is sick. This teacher was never near the children while they were undressed, let alone are they in any way shape or form a pedophile. There is no sexual abuse in looking at a child’s underwear that is NOT on their body.

You are either mentally deficient or a troll trying to stir people up.

  • the dude

Just more ammo for mothers who tell their kids to always wear clean underwear , whenever they leave the house!

  • ILside

This is a behavior disorders class where the students do this type of thing and worse daily. It wasnt an accident nor is it embarassing to the children. I think the teacher was wrong but to act as if this is just a class of special needs children who were humiliated is wrong. Its as wrong as those that call this a strip search when the children werent naked or call the teacher a pedophile. None of that is even close to the truth.

  • Constance

Sorry, I don’t get the big problem here. The teacher didn’t molest the children, or force them to get undressed in front of each other. A kid went in his pants and it ended up on the floor! What is a teacher supposed to do, nothing? I think parents and school administrators here are wound a little too tight. Chill out, people.

  • Kris Edwards

She should’ve submitted the dirty undies to NEA for a grant

  • Frank

Obviously this situation was handled the wrong way, but let’s face it most teachers are so subjugated by the system that taking matters into their own hands is often the result of too much bureaucracy. Should this teacher have been fired? Maybe, but I bet there is more too the story.

  • Kelly

This was obviously a terrible idea on his part. There are nurses in this school district but they travel from school to school. I also know that if there are special education class rooms in the school then they do have a health aid and he/she is permitted to check for poop and change the child’s pants. And all of you who think that this was ok.. If this would have happened to your kid you would not have been very happy.

  • DooDooDonnie

I read somewhere that the alleged feces sighting turned out to be a piece of smashed fudge that a student had accidentally dropped out of a packed lunch, and that’s why kids in Illinois can no longer bring a pcked lunch to school, because it may cause them to drop their fudge :)

of course by this time of the year she probably had an inkling who the soiler was and should have started with him/her … pooper profiling I know, but it is better than letting a kid sit in sh** and get a diaper rash.

They have aides who wipe the younger kids butts, I guess she could have called in one of those and had a check done too.

probably because all my kids teachers have been female, just came out that way.

School nurses are not just allowed to check 4th grade boys’ pants. Health aides are not allowed to either. Health aides are allowed to change the pants of children who are diapered. That is not the case here.

A child soiling themselves on purpose is not a health issue for a nurse. Its a discipline issue for the parent and the principal. Too bad the parents of these children arent any better than the kids.

    The “proper” protocol ? Special Ed 3rd & 4th graders ? How-bout a little love and understanding.
First I’d give all seven a toilet break.
    Second, clean-up the turd.
Third, have a calm kindly discussion about how to indicate the need for a toilet break. (Special Ed might be a clue these kids need special treatment)

What did the teacher accomplish with his/her Stalag 13 methods? Other than inflicting shame and embarrassment on the poopetrator.

In 1968, my junior high gym teacher made our entire class of 7th and 8th grade girls line up with our skirts raised so she & one of the girls could inspect panties–after the girl’s panties disappeared during shower time. I wonder what would happen to a teacher who did the same thing today?

it would have been simpler had she just sniffed the children’s bottoms through their clothes . If so, she might still have her job . Like most govt employees she was evidently to lazy !!

  • Tarmangani

She could have lined the kids up and, one by one, have them sit on her face. She should be able to identify the stinky pants.

  • dishonest_Abe

Let’s see. Parents (and I wonder how many of these kids have monogamous parents) bear responsibility by letting the nanny state have their kids in the first place. Solution, just abolish all public schools. It’s gonna happen anyway when the economy collapses, which I hope is immediate rather than later.

  • Linda

The teacher could have knealt down on his her knees and asked the kids to come one at a time and have them turn around in front of her. The offending student would smeel louder from that leve. Easy to find the right one and then call that kids parents.

Americans!!! What’s wrong with you people?? Anal retentive freaks!!!! You all sound like a bunch of perverted half wits. No wonder your country ( and people) are considered the sickest and most perverted society on the planet!!!!

  • Keith in Seattle

This fool must have some sort of scat fetish or something. Sounds like a sicko that shouldn’t be teaching anyways.

  • Fool Finder

apparently you’re TOO lazy to add another “o” to “too”… or perhaps it was your ‘lazy’, government worker Grammar teacher.

  • Fool Finder

Why couldn’t the teacher have “card swiped” all of them and see who was most uncomfortable with it?

“Down with teacher’s unions”? You’re a twit Ron. You act as though teachers are overbearing and overpaid. I’d like to ‘card swipe’ you with a brick.

  • Ed

folks your making this all to complicated all you have to do is get 1 of those tsa screeners to feel around in the kids pants to see if their is some foreign matter their .as we all know they have a lot of experance with kids

  • BeastyBoy

That would be profiling. And everyone knows that it is a moral outrage to profile anyone; to judge anyone; to use common sense about anyone or anything. We need trained experts to tell the illiteratie how and what to think.

  • mcnertny

  • Just Logic

    @LivingInSTL

Does it really matter?? This is a special ed class do all the students need to know what kid had the accident? Sounds like most of it was on the floor call a janitor have them clean the floor. The kid with the bright red face that doesn’t say anything did it. These aren’t 3 yr olds they are 3rd and 4th graders 9 and 10 yrs old. Send him/her to the Nurse to change or get rid of the underwear and clean up. I am sure no parent in there right mind would be upset at you for sending a child that had an accident to the Nurse/(well maybe a liberal would).

  • hal

If only you didn’t have that stupid 911essentials tag someone might care what you think.

  • glenp

so the little kid dropped a deuce—little kids do that

  • David

A little ad hominem, Hal? Good on you!

  • Kay

Look out Harry, Special Spelling Officer Fool Finder is on the prowl. I get so tired of these spell checkers, have any of you actually heard of a typo? People like Fool FInder spend all day on the internet correcting spelling on message boards because it makes them feel more intelligent. They offer nothing to the conversation, only their spell checking services. Sad. That being said, this teacher was completely in the wrong. It’s not too hard to find the source when a kid has an accident. Anyone who’s dealt with babies know that. lol.

  • circle8

I guess she did not know that only TSA employees can ask children to remove their clothes.

  • Kay

If you have a 3 year old son, then you know how bad it smells when they poo their pants. lol. It’s not hard to pin-point the source. I get what you’re saying though, kids get embarrassed and deny. I think that if the teacher had a decent sniffer, it wouldn’t be so hard to find the kid who did it. Just put some distance between them and walk past each one, the one who stinks is the kid. lol

  • Kay

Poopetrator, LOL!!! That’s a good one.

  • Kay

    AI32- lol!!! Nice comeback.

  • behave

You people are all very stupid!
Stop reading the Drudge like it is a bible.
Until you are in the shoes of the teacher,
you really do not understand the situation.

  • Kay

AZ_Teacher= Special Spelling Officer #2. The spelling checkers are out in full force today. lol. Do you get paid by Webster’s to do this? They ought to fire you if they do because it’s NAIVE, not NIAVE.

  • Robert

    So who was it?

  • Kay

My mother is a teacher and I used to tutor at her school. Sometimes I would work in the special ed class, and you’re completely right, it’s easy for other people to criticize. It’s a hard job for the teacher. I don’t know how they do it everyday. It takes a lot of patience and compassion. However, I don’t think that the teacher handled this situation correctly. I think the best thing to do would have been to call the nurse. That way a medical professional is handling it. I don’t think they should burn this teacher at the stake like they’re doing. It was a mistake. Maybe they ought to train them a little better on dealing with incontinence issue.

  • Bob

The TSA makes them do it in public. This teacher is far too decent for a TSA job.

  • Fred

I can’t see where the teacher did anything wrong. the teacher took them into the bathroom, the kids had privacy, and I’m sure she was going to call the parents when she figured out which student. It would be crazy to call all parents in to figure this out. Parents work, the teacher needs to be able to handle things like this without everyone freaking out.

  • Gibbs Bentley

Having spent months in his mum’s basement breathing mold and rat dropping, Hal emerges with contemplative thought and witty insight. This is the result of his public school education and massive television watching.

  • jjamer

The question no one seems to be asking is what was this teacher doing that she didn’t notice a child leave their seat, walk over and drop their pants, and poop on the floor, then return and sit down?

  • Andy

Geez, Kay – “Anyone who’s dealt with babies know that.” Try learning English,. It should read “Anyone who’s dealt with babies knowS that.”

    Love,
    Special Grammar Officer Andy

  • Jack

Personally, I don’t see why this was that bad. The teacher didn’t make the kid undress in front of her/ him. Did they want to have to spend the rest of the day smelling poop? The next time they should just bring in a dog to see whose butt he sniffs. That will tell them who soiled their undies.

hey kay, when they all stink because their parents dont bathe them, its not really that easy like it is with babies.

  • ILside

What can the school nurse do that the teacher couldn’t? The answer is nothing. You people are all idiots if you think school nurses can just go looking in a child’s pants for poop. We arent talking about diapered special ed students.

Just because a child poops in their pants, does not make it a health issue.

  • ILside

No, you didnt, but you also didnt say what you think the school nurse can do to take care of this matter that the teacher can’t. They cant sniff go around sniffing childrens’ bottoms or just look in their pants for evidence.

  • J Hunter

This was done to me twice, once before I reported it to my parents and once after.
Nothing was ever raised about it, then again this was in the late 70′s, them things just never happened back then!!!!!!!!
Very same situation, a handful of kids were brought into the side toilet that was attached to the classroom, door was closed and the female teacher proceeded to open our trousers and pulled down our underwear to have a peek.
We all had to stand and watch as each of us was examined.
I remember not wanting her to do me.
I remember my parents speaking to the school about it but obviously no heed was taken as it happened again soon after.
