Final Sentencing Set In Torture of Metro East Mother
EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (AP) __ The last of six people accused in the 2008 torture killing of a pregnant, developmentally impaired mother from the Metro East is scheduled to be sentenced.
Benny Wilson pleaded guilty in March of last year in Madison County to a first-degree murder count in the death of 29-year-old Dorothy Dixon. Investigators have said Dixon was five or six months pregnant when she died after weeks of systematic abuse. Police say she was routinely shot with BBs, doused with scalding liquid that peeled away her skin, and assaulted with a plunger handle and baseball bat.
Her 1-year-old son weighed 15 pounds when taken into state custody after his mom’s death.
Five other defendants already have pleaded guilty and have been received sentences ranging from probation to 45 years in prison.
