National Compensation Survey Releases Salary Figures for St. Louis

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – If you are looking to make a career change, the National Compensation Survey for the St. Louis metro area may help you choose.

Bureau of Labor Statistics Economist Jacqueline Midkiff says the average hourly wage for St. Louis area workers is $21.13 cents. The survey also answered a controversial question: do St. Louis-area union workers earn more and if so, how much more?

“Union workers made an average of $24.62 compared to their non-union counterparts that made $20.40/hour,” Midkiff said.

And which  occupations earn the most?

“Pharmacists, post-secondary teachers [and] computer and information systems managers,” Midkiff said. “And the good news there is that some of the fastest-growing industries that you have in St. Louis employ these types of workers.”

Midkiff says the wage data may be used by businesses making plant relocation decisions and even in collective bargaining negotiations.
