Group Raising Awareness on Kids’ Sports Injuries

ROSEMONT, Ill. (AP) __ An Illinois-based group of sports medicine doctors is making headway in its campaign to raise awareness about sports injuries in children.

It has been estimated that more than 3 million kids are treated for sports injuries each year, yet more than half of those cases are preventable.

Many are from overuse, with kids sometimes encouraged to focus and over-train in one sport at a young age.

The American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine in Rosemont has signed on more than 130 organizations for its campaign. The newest supporters include the Cleveland Clinic, Kaiser Permanente and the Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers’ Society.
