Gov. Nixon Objects to Planned Levee Breach

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMOX) – Governor Nixon is expressing alarm at apparent plans by the US Army Corps of Engineers to intentionally breach a levee in far Southern Missouri.

The Birds Point Levee sits near Mississippi and New Madrid Counties along the Mississippi River.

In a statement this afternoon, Nixon warned an intentional breach would affect hundreds of Missouri families and flood 130-thousand acres of prime farmland.
