Insurance Companies Bring In Extra Help To Handle Storm Claims

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) –  Nearly a week after the Good Friday tornadoes, families are still picking up the pieces.

And they’re doing it with the help of their insurance companies.

Angela Nelson, Consumer Affairs director for the Missouri Department of Insurance, says many of those providers are bringing in agents from other states to handle the overload of claims.

“We’ve been telling people that once they file a claim they should hear something from the company within 24 to 48 hours,” Nelson tells KMOX News.  “At least an initial contact.”

Most cases should be resolved within a matter of weeks or less, according to Nelson.

“We’re aware of insurance companies that are already settling claims in full, as we speak,” she says.  “So it really just depends on the extent of damage.”

Nelson says if they’re not satisfied with their company’s response times, storm victims can contact the state insurance department directly.
