LOUISVILLE, Ky. (KMOX)- Looking for a rooting interest in Saturday’s 137th Kentucky Derby?

St. Louis area dentist and DeSmet High School graduate Ray Nikodem is part owner of the horse “Mucho Macho Man.”

Nikodem appeared on KMOX’s Sports Open Line, Thursday night.

Nikodem acquired the horse 1.5 years ago as a yearling. He says “Mucho Macho Man’s” development has been a joy to watch, “He is one cool customer, really laid back. We’ve got a horse that has as good a shot as any of winning (the Kentucky Derby).”

“Mucho Macho Man’s” opening odds were 12:1. He’ll be coming out of the 13th position of 20 horses at Churchill Downs.

Nikodem says 3-M is sponsoring the horse in this race, and the 1970’s musical group The Village People have taken an interest, due to the similarity of the entry’s name to lyrics in its popular “Macho Man” song.

“Mucho Macho Man’s” trainer is Kathy Ritvo and jockey is Rajiv Maragh.
