ELSAH, Ill. (AP) __ A 24-year-old man died over the weekend when his motorcycle hit a guard rail along a southwestern Illinois highway and the impact threw him into the Mississippi River. The (Alton) Telegraph reports that the motorcyclist was identified Sunday as Dustin Pierson of Granite City.
Authorities say Pierson struck the guard rail Saturday night along Illinois Rouse 100 in Jersey County, near Elsah. Illinois State Police officials say Pierson was wearing a helmet when the crash happened. Another driver found his wrecked motorcycle and called 911.
It took search teams about two hours to recover Pierson’s body from the river.
