Man Pleads Guilty in Friend’s Heroin Death

EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (KMOX) –  A Belleville man faces a possible life prison term after pleading guilty to inject his friend with a lethal dose of heroin.

33-year-old Scott Weldon was one of two defendants charged in the January 2010 death of 56-year-old David L. Roth.

Prosecutors say Roth drove Weldon and 29-year-old Andrea Fields to East St. Louis, where they bought heroin.

After arriving back in Belleville, Roth mixed the heroin and injected himself, Fields and Roth.

Roth later died as a result of the injection.

Weldon faces a minimum of 20 years in federal prison and a possible life term when he’s sentenced in August.

Fields awaits trial for her alleged role in the crime.
