ALTON, Ill. (KMOX) –  A self-employed contractor finds himself in trouble with the law — and on the run from authorities.

Sheriff’s officials in Madison County are searching for 36-year-old James D. Markle of Alton.

He’s accused of taking a $6,000 up-front payment to work on a home in Marine Illinois, then failing to do any work and refusing to give the money back.

Authorities say Markle has similar cases currently pending against him in Madison County Circuit Court.

Though charges have been filed again him, Markle is not in custody.

Anyone in information on his whereabouts is urged to contact the Madison County Sheriff’s Department.

This same person contracted with me for home repair work on 5-30-11. I gave him an $1800 dollar check and he never returned or contacted me to do any work.

Hope they find this guy. I offered him some blintzes to paint my fence and he just took off.
