WATERLOO, ILL.(AP)-Investigators say a longtime employee of a metro east golf course was killed when the lawn mower he was driving on the job overturned onto him.
Monroe County authorities say 63-year-old Willis Werling died at the scene of the accident Tuesday at Annbriar Golf Course near Waterloo. Investigators say Werling was operating the mower when it veered to the side and went over a hill, eventually turning over and running over him.
Investigators say they are checking to see whether perhaps Werling had been under medical distress moments before the accident happened.
Werling was known locally as a referee in baseball and basketball games, and friends say he liked to fish.
