Cicadas are showing up everywhere in the area, including in some recipes. Chris Hartley from the Butterly House joined Mark Reardon and brought along some snacks.
Mark, along with Stacie Gentry and Sara Geerling of the KMOX Marketing Department, sampled cheese crackers topped with cicadas and plain deep fried cicadas.
Cicadas are known for their culinary use in several countries. Sparky’s, a local ice cream shop in Columbia, MO even offers up a homemade ice cream flavored with the bugs.
The 13-year Periodical Cicada pack is making a return to the St. Louis area this year for the first time since 1998.
