Missouri will Help Construct Temporary Levee

JEFFERSON CITY, MO. (KMOX) – Governor Nixon wants to help Southeast Missouri farmers get back on their feet after the intentional breach of the Birds Point Levee.

Nixon today called on the Army Corps of Engineers to quickly approve a plan for a temporary levee.

Nixon said the state is prepared to commit the resources necessary to help construct the temporary levee.

The intentional flooding put more than 130-thousand acres under water to save the town of Cairo, Illinois.  It was a move opposed by Nixon.
