ST. LOUIS (KMOX) –  A man shot during a confrontation with St. Louis city police late Sunday night now faces criminal charges.

A report shows 48-year-old Carl Evans ran from officers after they stopped near a group of people in the 3100 block of N. Jefferson.

Evans ran into a vacant building and reportedly buried himself in a pile of plywood, then came at officers with what looked like a knife after they discovered his hiding place.

A 39-year-old female officer with nine years on the force fired once, striking Evans in the arm.

He’s hospitalized in serious condition, and now faces a count of unlawful use of a weapon.
