ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOX) – A St. Louis area attorney admits in federal court that he embezzled funds from client estates and trusts.
The U.S. Attorney’s office says in one case, 46-year-old Steven Gartenberg diverted more than a hundred thousand dollars to his firm and himself. The estate money was supposed to be paid to a church and a charity.
Prosecutors say in another case, Gartenberg was supposed to manage the assets of a mentally disabled client, but instead took more than two-hundred-thousand dollars for his own use.
When he’s sentenced in September, Gartenberg faces twenty years in federal prison. Restitution is mandatory.
