Former Blue Guerin Hired As Penguins Staffer

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Former NHL star Bill Guerin has been hired by the Pittsburgh Penguins as a player development coach, where he’ll work with players in the minor leagues along with junior and college hockey.

The 40-year-old three-time Olympian played for eight teams over 18 seasons in the NHL (including the 2006-2007 season with the St. Louis Blues), scoring 429 goals with 427 assists and winning two Stanley Cups. He was traded to the Penguins at the deadline in 2009, helping the franchise with the title.

The Penguins announced the hiring in a statement Wednesday.

General manager Ray Shero said: “Billy has only been retired as a player for one year, so he brings a new and very contemporary perspective to the position. He is going to be a big asset to our young prospects throughout the organization, and to our staff.”
